Book Sculpture

How does looking at the work of other artists help you develop ideas?  How do you make sure you are being inspired but NOT copying another artist's work?
It's kinda helpful to see how other artists put their sculptures together or played with the medium to gain my own idea of how to construct mine or get inspiration. I liked how one sculpture I saw didn't use any straight edges of the paper so I decided to use paper that was torn for the deer and tree but use straight edges for the leaves and grass.

Why is craftsmanship so important in creating a work of art?
Things can get sloppy real fast when doing sculptures, especially hot glue guns and those glue strings. And to achieve certain shapes, textures, or anything you need to be careful. It's also important you are carefully when considering how and where you are going to fasten pieces together so its sticks and stays neat (and it actually possible to do).

Critique your sculpture and tell me what worked, what was a struggle and the grade you feel you deserve?
Look at my lil deer! I like how the little deer turned out and it stands by itself which I'm happy about too. I like the grass and leaves and tree branches, too. Basically, I like how this project turned out. The tree kinda looks like it could use more branches but I didn't know where to add them that it wouldn't looked cluttered after I added leaves to it.
